Today, I received my first issue of Hobby Farms, and I am very pleased with the magazine. Although I currently live in suburbia, I make the most of my yard by gardening year-round, am motivated to become more self-efficient and make the move to a rural community in the not so distant future. For now, I am reading up on possible business ideas for a small hobby farm (game birds, animals for fiber, orchards, etc.), which I hope this magazine will have articles on in future issues. Although the magazine does have quite a bit of advertisements throughout, I read through them anyway because it is all new to me. I like the fact that there are recipes from the season's harvest, reader's pages & photos, and ideas for people who have hobby farms for pleasure as well as primary source of income.
