Shop For Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine

Kiplinger's does a nice job of giving general financial advice. It is not too specific and covers lots of topics that both investors and non-investors can benefit from. I have saved a lot of money because of advice from this magazine over the years.Get more detail about Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.

Parents (1-year)

I'm not even there yet (not until October) but the endless information in Parents is truly helpful. I suggest this mag. to anyone embarking on parenthood or even someone that's already there. I especially love the great cheap activities and awesome snack ideas. Get more detail about Parents (1-year).

Discover (1-year) Review

I've been a subscriber to Popular Science, Discover, Astronomy, Sky & Telescope and Scientific American for years now.

I'm also an on again, off again reader of scientific books. Primarily on Astronomy, Cosmology, Physics, Anthropology and Evolution.

Of the three magazines I tend to like Discover the best. Astronomy is a little to narrow and covers a lot of observational astronomy which sadly I have little time for anymore and covers too little of the "big pictures".

Scientific American is a close second but often the articles can be either too few or just too in-depth for what a general reader would care about (along with assuming you know what they are talking about rather than being longer, to help better explain to a layreader)

Popular Science should be called "popular technology" not popular science and so I think misses the mark (although it is an interesting magazine) and has WAY too many adverts.

If you can pick only one pick Discover. Get more detail about Discover (1-year).

Parenting School Years (1-year) Top Quality

As any mother knows, there are so many worries that can go along with those first few months and years. And, there's a plethora of magazines aimed at that segment.

Now there's one targeting those of us who know that just because a child can speak up, feed/bathe/dress themselves, and growth percentiles are no longer the critical measure - there ARE still worries and struggles! Balancing freedom/discipline, homework, technology, friendships, communication, etc. Are there ads and reviews of material 'stuff'? Yes - and I don't mind that! I like to read about what's out there for this age group (K - 6th or so?), as it helps me to make decisions about what we might be interested in and what we're not. If you grow all your own food, only eat whole foods, sew your own clothes, and never interact with the 'outside' material world - this may not be for you. Since I do buy foods (prepared even, gasp), buy clothes, gadgets, music, etc - this is fine by me.

I'll agree with another reviewer that it's not written at the level of, say, The Atlantic. But, I'm not looking to it to speak to the intellectual in me, but rather the mom of an elementary schooler, and it does that quite well in my opinion.Get more detail about Parenting School Years (1-year).

SmartMoney (1-year) Immediately

I ordered this magazine from Amazon and this is the first time I am disappointed for a purchase from Amazon. The magazine was delivered to me for a couple of months and then it just stopped! For the couple of months it was delivered, it was delivered late. And they take 6 weeks to process your subscription! Thats crazy...

I would not blame Amazon though for this, its the company Hearst delivering this.. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know.Get more detail about SmartMoney (1-year).

Southern Living (2-year) Best Quality

Everything was great, especially the $10.00 thank you from Amazon but my magazine
has not started yet, so I can not speak to that process! I have mailed in the payment I was sent from Southern Living but wished I could have paid online instead. When I tried to do that, it said I needed to contact another phone number and they were unable to help me so I finally mailed in payment. It is the first week in November but still don't have a magazine. This not Amazon's fault but the magazine discounter. I am EXTREMELY pleased with all my orders on Amazon! To date: all my experiences with them has been great! I think that is still called Customer Service isn't it? Get more detail about Southern Living (2-year).

Country Living (1-year) Get it now!

Country Living has been my favorite magazine for years. It is a beautiful publication with great decorating ideas, interesting columns about collecting and antiques, articles about restoring houses and excellent recipes. With some magazines there is a lot of flash and very little substance. Country Living is not like that. Each issue is of the highest quality. The pictures are gorgeous and plentiful, but the text is informative and detailed. Although there are a number of country homes featured, the term "country" is more of a feeling of warmth and home and family. This magazine embodies all of those things. You won't be disappointed with this one.Get more detail about Country Living (1-year).

Marie Claire (2-year) Buy Now

I'm glad I ordered Marie Claire while it was just $5.00 for two years. Because of that, reading the first issue wasn't as painful as it could have been. It was still definitely painful, though.

Wow, this magazine is full of ads. Every other page - and in some places every page for five pages! There isn't much substance to the magazine and it literally took me all of ten minutes to finish "reading" the whole thing. No useful articles, nothing but ads and pictures of frightening looking and rather gaunt women. Yes, fashion magazines are full of those...but some of these women looked just sick! It pained me to look at them. Toward the front of the magazine, there is one shot of three models in the middle of a page and they literally look like aliens. So thin and starving their heads look two times too big. Poor girls. That being the only thing that stuck out in a decent sized magazine...that's pathetic.

Low Price Smithsonian

I purchased a subscription to the Smithsonian for my parents who are retired and living WAY up in the mountains. They have remarked several times how much they enjoy it and specifically refer to articles they have read. It's the only gift I've ever gotten them that they rave about. They get one every so often so it's a gift that keeps on giving all year long (and gets me out of trouble if I only manage to get a call in on a birthday, Mother's Day, Father's Day . . .). It's a great magazine, different, intelligent and I enjoy reading it whenever I come across one. Wish I thought to get myself a subscription but. . . . Get more detail about Smithsonian.

Save Parenting Early Years (1-year)

My experience was similar to the previous reviewer. I also thought it was worth $5. But the publisher also kept sending me out the incorrect version and sent out dated issues. When I contacted the publisher, they completely ignored my complaint about the issues being out of date. After 3 emails from me, 2 weeks later the publisher told me I should contact Amazon to get the correct version of the magazine.

BUT Amazon had great customer service!! They responded in less than 24 hours of me sending an e-mail, credited me in full for the magazine and gave me an extra goodwill credit.
